Welcome to the Alpine County Assessor's web site. David Peets is the Alpine County Assessor and has served as the Assessor since 1989.

The Assessor's office is located in the County Administration Building at 99 Water Street in Markleeville. Our phone number is (530) 694-2283 and our USPS mailing address is PO Box 155 Markleeville, CA 96120. Our office hours are 8 a.m. 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (except holidays).

The Assessors office is aware of the decline in property values throughout the area and is reviewing all properties to determine which ones are eligible for a reduction in taxable value (Prop 8). This process is performed yearly and is based on the fair market values between January 1st and march 30th of the following year. If we lower the taxable value, it will reflect on the upcoming yearly tax bill that goes into effect in July with the first installment due December 10th. There is no action needed on the property owners part for the revaluation to take place.

The Assessor's office performs the following duties:

• Locates and values all taxable property in the county.
• Produces the property tax assessment rolls.
• Processes homeowners' and other tax exemptions.
• Assists the public with property valuation questions.

At the Assessors' office, you can:

• View Assessor Parcel Maps (APN Maps) and Official Recorded maps at the public counter. Copies are available for a fee. (not available online)
• View real estate sales in Alpine County (general information) available at the public counter computer. (not available online)
• View assessor parcel ownership information (no phone #s) at the public counter. (not available online)
