Sexual Assault
What it is and what services are available
Sexual assault is more than just forced sex. It can include: unwanted touching or fondling, forcing unwanted sexual acts (even if the perpetrator is your husband/wife), forcing sexual relations with other people, continuing to having sex with you after you have said no (even if you said yes at first).
The Alpine County Women's Center provides comprehensive support for sexual assault survivors and options for healing. Services include:
- 24-hour crisis line staffed by trained Advocates: (888) 750-6444
- Crisis intervention
- Individual counseling
- Support group for adults molested as children (currently held at the South Lake Tahoe office)
- Accompaniment and advocacy throughout the medical and legal processes
- Forensic interviews of children in cases of suspected sexual molestation (as part of the Sexual Assault Response Team)
- Community outreach, education, and referral
