Public Works includes the following services and departments:

  • Buildings & Grounds Department - buildings and parks maintenance
  • Community Centers - Turtle Rock Park, Markleeville and Perry Walther, Bear Valley
  • Recycling Yard - self service
  • Burn Pile and County Clean-Up - spring and fall
  • Road Department - road and vehicle maintenance, snow removal
  • Turtle Rock Park Campground - Markleeville
  • Airport Authority - Alpine County airport
  • County Surveyor - processes official maps
  • County Engineer - oversees road design and construction, development review
  • Local Transportation Commission - oversees county transportation issues
  • DEATH RIDE 2008 PARKING INFORMATION:  Parking and overnight camping at the "Burn Pile" area of Turtle Rock Park will not be available this year due to the acquisition of land and construction of a U.S. Forest Service building at said site.  Death Ride parking information is available at the Alpine County Chamber of Commerce Website, www.alpinecounty.com, or follow the road signs along Highway 89 during the event.
