SELECTIVE SERVICE BOARD
Combined with El Dorado County, creating Draft Board No. 188.
Effective 3-31-1992.
The Selective Service is composed of hundreds of Local Boards throughout the nation, which provide a system that enables the United States to quickly respond to a national emergency requiring the reinstatement of a military draft.
A Selective Service Local Board is composed of five individuals who live within the same general geographic area. Since there is no military draft at the current time, the board exists in a standby capacity. If a national emergency were to occur requiring resumption of the draft, the board would meet to decide upon the requests of local draftees for reclassification from induction into military service.
Board members are required to attend an initial twelve-hour orientation training session presented over a weekend. Four-hour refresher training sessions are also provided periodically in the Local Board area.
