New FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) in Bear Valley and South Carson Valley have been issued for Alpine County. New floodplain management standards have also been adopted. County residents are invited to learn more about the FIRMs and new regulations. Come and learn how staff works with our partners to prepare for floods. After a short presentation, both Markleeville and Bear Valley communities will have the opportunity to:
• Meet FEMA, California, and Alpine County floodplain management specialists
• View preliminary flood hazard maps and areas of projected risk of flood hazards
• Speak with a FEMA Insurance Specialist
• Learn about newly adopted county floodplain management standards.
• Get answers to questions about what this means for your neighborhood.
Partners will be on hand to discuss weather and hydrology, watersheds, floodplain management, safety, polluted runoff, watershed animals and habitat, and Washoe Tribal safety and Hazard Mitigation Plan.
