Eastern Alpine Fire & Rescue Announces Annual Pancake Breakfast and Fall Fire Safety Awareness Campaign
Markleeville, CA – Eastern Alpine Fire & Rescue invites the public to attend the Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, October 18th, from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Eastern Alpine Fire Station 91, located at 60 Diamond Valley Road.
This beloved community event offers residents a chance to enjoy a delicious home-cooked breakfast while meeting local firefighters, exploring emergency response equipment, and learning more about fire safety in Alpine County. The breakfast also serves as a platform to kick off the Fall and Winter Fire Safety Campaign, reminding residents to prepare their homes for the upcoming heating season.
With colder months approaching, now is the time to inspect heating equipment, replace smoke alarm batteries, and clear snow away from propane regulators and fire hydrants. Simple preventative steps can make a life-saving difference for families and first responders.
The Eastern Alpine Fire and Rescue Fall and Winter Safety Flyer highlights several key reminders:
• Change smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
• Inspect and clean chimneys, furnaces, and dryer vents.
• Ensure portable heaters have automatic shut-offs and are placed at least three feet from anything that can burn.
• Maintain a clear perimeter around fire hydrants during winter months.
• Review your family’s fire escape plan and ensure children know how to call 911.
According to national data, more than half of all home heating fires occur between December and February, resulting in over $2 billion in property loss each year.
